ELECTROLYTE LITHIUM SALTS

ELECTROLYTE LITHIUM SALTS

Lithium Hexafluorophosphate (LiPF₆)

Lithium Hexafluorophosphate (LiPF₆) is the primary lithium salt used in lithium-ion battery electrolytes. It enables ionic conductivity between electrodes.

Key Details:
Chemical Formula: LiPF₆
Appearance: White crystalline or powder
Purity: ≥99.9% (Battery/Electrolyte Grade)
Melting Point: 200–205°C (decomposes)
Solubility: Soluble in carbonate solvents (EC, DMC, DEC)

Applications:
• Main electrolyte salt for all Li-ion batteries
• EV, ESS, power tools & consumer electronics
• High-voltage and long-cycle-life cell designs

Safety Note: Highly moisture-sensitive; reacts with water to release HF. Store under inert atmosphere.

Lithium Fluoride (LiF)

Lithium Fluoride (LiF) is a high-purity inorganic compound used in LiPF₆ synthesis and as an electrolyte additive to improve SEI stability.

Key Details:
Chemical Formula: LiF
Appearance: White crystalline powder
Purity: ≥99.0%
Melting Point: 845°C
Solubility: Insoluble in water; soluble in molten lithium salts

Applications:
• Precursor for LiPF₆ manufacturing
• SEI-forming electrolyte additive
• Optical coatings and specialty ceramics

Safety Note: Avoid inhalation; store in sealed, dry containers.

Lithium Nitrate (LiNO₃)

Lithium Nitrate (LiNO₃) is widely used as an additive in lithium-metal and advanced electrolyte systems to enhance SEI formation and reduce dendrite growth.

Key Details:
Chemical Formula: LiNO₃
Appearance: White granular or powder
Purity: ≥99.0%
Melting Point: 255°C
Solubility: Highly soluble in water and alcohol

Applications:
• SEI formation for lithium-metal batteries
• Electrolyte additive in next-generation cells
• Glass, ceramics, and oxidizing agent in synthesis

Safety Note: Strong oxidizer; keep away from organic materials.

Lithium Tetrafluoroborate (LiBF₄)

Lithium Tetrafluoroborate (LiBF₄) is an alternative lithium salt used in high-temperature and high-voltage electrolyte formulations.

Key Details:
Chemical Formula: LiBF₄
Appearance: White to off-white crystalline powder
Purity: ≥99%
Melting Point: 293°C
Solubility: Soluble in carbonate solvents

Applications:
• High-temperature and high-voltage electrolytes
• Advanced cell R&D
• Specialty electrolyte formulations

Safety Note: Hygroscopic; store in dry, sealed packaging.
